Arcades, Color Powder, and Ice Cream - Michelle & Calvin's Engagement Session1:50 PM
There are some days when work feels like play. This was one of those days.
When I first met Michelle and Calvin on Skype, I had a feeling they’d be one of those really chill couples who generally place a high priority on fun. Turns out I was right! It was a pretty adventurous weekend to begin with; as part of a NorCal engagement shoot marathon, I had just finished another session the day before. Calvin, being the champion that he was, picked me up from where the first shoot ended so I could crash at his place (and it ended late…like…past-my-bedtime late). It was good to get some rest because the next day would be non stop, here’s why…
We kicked off the shoot at Monterey’s Boardwalk where the two went head to head at Mario Kart, free throws, and air hockey. A bit of motorcycle racing, vintage arcading, and photoboothing later, our focus turned to the claw-machine imprisoned Hello Kitty – his liberation was unsuccessful. With the gaming behind us, we hit the boardwalk in search of nomz…eventually settling on a spiral cut potato, oversized donuts, and cotton candy. I ate most of the cotton candy.
Throughout their relationship Rite Aid ice cream dates were a pretty big thing. So to play around with that idea, we hit up their local store to load up on massive amounts of the frozen confectionary – complete with the paper hats and all! We lost a few scoops to the asphalt but it’s ok since the ice cream salesman hooked us up with extra scoops to begin with! To burn off all that sugar we ventured into the hills for a quick open-field hike and closed out the session with a homemade color powder fight. Let’s just say, thing’s got pretty chromatic. Kudos to Michelle for prepping all the power the day before!
It’s been an amazing summer so far…with just about half of my weddings this year being destinations, being able to shoot at completely new places is an utterly invigorating challenge that I look forward to every time. With their wedding being no exception, I’m CRAZY looking forward to the Tahoe trip.
I love lakes. Lakes are the best. Lakes.
