Back to Where it All Started – Taku & Alison’s Engagement Session12:42 PM
Sometimes it’s nice to visit the place where it all began. For Taku and Alison, it’s where their relationship started. For me, it’s SimplyTwo. A few months ago we traveled down to San Diego to revisit our former stomping grounds…to shoot the familiar and explore the new. We mapped out a Tour of San Diego session starting with a long time bucket list shot at the Fallen Star, a permanent art installation sitting atop the Jacob’s Engineering Building. The sun was bright that day…without a cloud in sight, and at that elevation the skies were extra blue along the horizon! Once the altitude sickness set in nice and good, it was a bee line to Geisel Library for a quick lesson in break dancing from Taku and then to the lecture halls where he and Alison once distracted each other before falling asleep mid-class. jk, but probably =)
Shooting at UCSD is always mind blowingly nostalgic because I vividly remember my novice days snapping photos around campus and marveling at the balance of light against interesting architecture. Wide-eyed and full of wonder, I knew so little back then and often pondered the possibility of being a photographer for realz, like when I grow up, ya know? Retracing the same paths that day, the same ones I once took to class, it suddenly hit me: it’s been over ten years and as luck would have it I still have a camera in my hand! The only thing that’s changed is I’ve got more gray hairs and my favorite shirt has a few more holes in it.
With campus behind us, the rest of the day was spent highlighting Taku’s STUNNING and nearly flawless JDM Integra Type R. This bad boy drives on the right. After finding a super dark spot along wind & sea beach + a quick camera tweak …we got the stars. We got the stars man…
An incredible day. And if I had it my way, it’s how I’d want all my sessions to be: uniquely significant to the couple, playing up themes and locations they love, and tons and tons of random creativity. This is the life.
